Board Certified Optometrist (Diplomate, American Board Of Optometry)
Dr. Mel Cleveland received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama (BS in Biology). He attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry where he received a degree in Physiological Optics (BS) and a Doctor of Optometry degree (OD). Since entering practice in 1980, Dr. Cleveland has served in the U.S. Army (Chief of Optometry, First Calvary Division, Fort Hood, TX), and in the U.S. Navy Reserve (NAS Dallas Fleet Hospital Unit). He is a clinician with expertise in contact lenses and ocular disease management. He is an optometric glaucoma specialist. In addition to performing research for numerous contact lens companies, he has served as a clinical investigator for Alcon Laboratories, performing in office research studies. Dr. Cleveland also worked in Alcon’s Fort Worth Research Clinic performing clinical ophthalmic drug and contact lens solution studies while providing ongoing eye and vision care to members of the employee research pool. Dr. Cleveland is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Texas Optometric Association and the Tarrant County Optometric Society where he has served as president. He was appointed to the Texas Optometry Board where he has served since 2007.
